Intertextuality

Intertextuality

What Is Intertextuality?
A text referring to another text, So using famous phrases, Gestures in the characters and the shot itself. So media representing other media for example to display or recreate an episode so people remember the original film or for a parody version for a comical to display the media but in a joke way.

Good example
There are lots of different good examples in the media industry through music and films where they use intertextuality where they take other media and use it for themselves to create an episode or a new song

So the first example is the Simpsons because they use lots of different media when creating new episodes  for example they have used the Beatles when walking across the road and Silence of the lambs with Mr Burns so The Simpsons are a very good examples because they have used sections from  other films and placed them in a scene of theirs and they continue to do that.

The next example is The Beastie Boys a punk band that also uses intertextuality throughout their music and promotion because they were very big at the time as they were displayed as stars of the time for example promotion to show them as coppers like starsky and hutch as they were looked up upon.

Why Is It Used?

The reason that intertextuality was used was to introduce comedy into films where people could relate back to the meaning so re-enact  a scene from another programme. Another reason that it is used is to remind the viewers of the original programme where the scene came from because it might not have been seen for a while so the producer might contact another programme that is on TV most days to remind people of the band/film.
