Digipak/Promo Packs

A promo pack is basically the extras that are sent with disc of the music, so a package from the band or artist that they offer as a promo pack. For example posters, bags or pictures etc… this costs the customer more because they are buying a package with extra gifts.

-          CD/DVD

-          Clothing

-          Posters

-          Signed pictures

-          Letters

As you can see from this picture it is a promo pack from the alternate band ‘Mumford and Sons’ where they have a store where they sell their merchandise where they offer customers different packages like, CD’s, Posters and book all for a set price. From the website they also offer designed clothing with printed T shirts of the band. The reason that they offer fans this is because it gives them a package of official items, so this would be a perfect give for a fan and that is why they have been successful through their music and gifts.

Another example of bands doing promo packages for their fans are green day as they offer their customers lots of official merchandise for example clothing, mugs, lighters, posters all in a package with the CD's. Green day are such a huge rock band so they have 4 different store websites for all over the world because they have an American, English, German and Korean store to gather sales from worldwide. The reason that it is such a high price as well as a good offer is that within the package you get a good range of items that are official from their website and you won't get them any where else.

The final example is Bruno Mars from the pop genre where he also offers his fans a package which contains CD's, Posters and badges so a good box set for all the Bruno fans

HWK posters of different genres

Describe the following genres

What makes the videos/artists link to their genre?

POP

-          Funky Font

-          Bright colours

-          Good looking woman

-          Fashionable clothing

-          Large picture filling the screen (focus)

-          Small text

The reason that artists are link to their genre is because the way they displays themselves for example Katy Perry comes out as a happy outgoing woman that has happy music videos revealing a bit of flesh because that is what the latest generation want. So the music of pop is happy and contains bright colours with a funky beat.

Rock

-          Dark lighting

-          Sharp font

-          Dark clothing

-          Crazy hair

-          Hand gestures

-          Stereotypically men

The reason that Metallica link to their genre is because they’re a heavy rock band which are stereotypically loud and dark so they’re seen as a negative influence as they play ‘metal’ style so they are known for loud music that is seen as head banging music which includes guitars and drums.

R&B

-          Lots of 'Bling'

-          Lots of money

-          usually afro Caribbean artists

The reason that this style links to its genre is because they are mainly American artists that have come from mixed backgrounds so from urban cities others better off. This genre relates to the younger generation because it is more club music that the younger generation listen to.

Alternate

- Old fashioned

-farmerish clothes

- Country music

-acoustic guitar

Alternate links to its genre because the style of music is very laid back country music that people can easily listen to. They fit in because they wear unusual farmerish clothing which contains rural items. The clothing can vary  from classic country to smart casual.

Hip/Hop

-          Similar to R&B

-          Afro Caribbean artist

-          Bling

-          Hats

-          Gangsters

Hip/Hop links to its genre by the American artists talking about their backgrounds where most of them grew up poor talking about life and how it was hard growing up. They now talk about their life how they started from the bottom and now their rich.

See, there's a lot of man out there with this knowledge
But they ain't educating like this, bro
But they'll tell 'em 'bout whips /Long take of P Money

Nothing else going on, is that it,/ Close up of CCTV camera (C) bro?

Real talk, that's my lingo/ Close up of shop name (C)

Then I ain't really hearing shit, bro

See, there's a lot of man out there/ Shot of P Money (P) with this knowledge
But they ain't educating like this, bro
But they'll tell 'em 'bout whips and tricks,/ though
Nothing else going on, is that it,/ bro?

And you can't even dance/ Shot of yute (Y)
You're dumb, you spent your money in the/ brass
Brudda, where's your mum? Brudda, where's your aunt?
Wait, stop this deck
Brudda, where's your besties? Where's your dargs?
You find that interesting,/ Long Take of P Money (P) I find it depressing
Excuse my aggression,/ but you blame the oppression
Bro,/ that ain't oppression, you know what that is?/
You and your dickhead bredrins,/ gassed up on a next ting
None of you's real, your mind's based off a film/
Where you're just acting real, trust me/

Key

P for P Money

L for long shots of buildings

S for Squad

C for Close up of stairs, shop name, CCTV

Y for yute (Younger Rapper)

This is all the shots that I have taken from the video around 30 shots and I have analysed the main shots and said how they relate to the genre of the video and the area it is set in.

This is a shot of P Money that is a close up because it is showing the top part of his body as he is rapping about real talk in an urban area with built up flats as he is stood tall showing his power in the area.

This is a mid-shot of the squad that P Money hangs around with as they look threatening to other people as they illustrate power.

This is a close up of the stairs of the flats to show the status of the area as it is surrounded by flats because it is a city, so the shot is looking up at the building. This is similar to a worm’s eye shot as it looks directly up.

This is a close up of a CCTV camera, this could represent that there is a lot of violence in the area and they need to keep an eye on the people.

This is a low angle shot looking up at an old corner shop that has been vandalised for example the windows in this shot look like they have been boarded up because of the violence in the area.

This is a mid-shot of P Money and his mate walking up to a building or garage where they might be storing something or to have a meeting inside.

This is a close up of the yute  (which is slang for young rapper) so it shows his facial expression as he is happy that he is joining a group.

This is a shot of the youngsters  hand on his heart showing respect for the music because he loves his friends as he is growing into the group.

This shot shows P Money in a housing estate showing the area that it is based in has different areas for example the rich and the poor areas the video has been recorded in comparing the different areas.

This is a shot of the young rappers trousers to show the style of clothing that they wear in the hood so they wear baggy trousers, jewellery, hoodies  and hats. This relates to the themes in the urban area.
