Music Video

Music video comprised of two types of image
-          Performance

-          Conceptual Clip (narrative and artistic

In all major music videos the two are combined together.

Performance

-Video that shows the vocalist in one or more settings such as a recording studio

- Can take place in different settings, singer could be in their bedroom, walking down the street.

Narrative Clip

-          Contains a visual story that is easy to follow and understand.

-          Pure narrative clip contains no lip synchronisation singing

-          A story has an idea or concept

-          Usually relates to the song

-          Narrative rooted

Artistic Clips

-          No obvious narrative

-          Good example Sia

-          A performance video is heavily artistic

-          Story told at the end

Using narrative effectively

-          More meaningful and easier to film

-          Technical requirements for performance

-          Timing (hitting drums need to be in time with the music)

-          Lots of shots

-          Tempo needs to change from  slow to fast through out

-          Intersexuality references to other video, movies, TV programmes and other events
